7 Days/6 Nights Maasai Mara - Nakuru - Samburu (Camping)

Day 1 Nairobi - Maasai Mara

Morning departure from Nairobi, descending the escarpment and driving along the floor of the Great Rift Valley to the Maasai town of Narok. After a stop for refreshments, proceed to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve with game viewing enroute to the overnight camp.

Day 2 Maasai Mara
Full day game viewing with picnic lunch.
One of Kenya's premier reserves, the Maasai Mara is an extension of the Serengeti and world famous for the spectacular migration of thousands of wildebeest and zebra during the months of July and October. The Mara is also rich in resident game with over 95 species recorded. These include the "Big Five" - elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino - as well as giraffe, hippo, cheetah, hyena, hippo and numerous antelope. The Reserve is also rich in birdlife with over 480 species recorded in recent times. Return to camp for dinner.

Day 3 Maasai Mara
After breakfast we undertake a morning gamedrive before returning to camp for lunch. After lunch you have the option of further game driving, or taking a walk with the moran to visit a local manyatta and learning a little about their way of life. Overnight and dinner at the camp.

Day 4 Maasai Mara - Lake Nakuru
After breakfast, depart the campsite and proceed via Narok to the Rift Valley town of Nakuru.
For many years Lake Nakuru has been famous for the thousands of flamingo that inhabit the shores of the lake. In recent times, the water level of the lake has fluctuated greatly and this has affected the numbers present at any one time. More importantly, the Park has been established as a rhino sanctuary and these are frequently seen on gamedrives - along with buffalo, lion, giraffe, waterbuck, and the elusive leopard. Overnight at a local hotel.

Day 5 Lake Nakuru - Samburu Game Reserve
After an early morning gamedrive in Nakuru National Park we proceed northwards via Nyahururu to the equator town of Nanyuki for lunch. Skirting the base of Mt.Kenya, we continue north via Isiolo to the Samburu Game Reserve for dinner and overnight camp.

Day 6 Samburu Game Reserve
The day is spent game driving in Samburu in search of some of the more unusual species found in northern Kenya - Grevy's zebra, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe and Somali Ostrich. Other animals commonly seen are elephants, buffalo, cheetah, leopard, lion, and spotted hyena.
An optional highlight of an evening in Samburu is a visit to Samburu Lodge to view the crocodiles, lured to the bar area by carcass meat. Overnight camp.

Day 7 Samburu Game Reserve - Nairobi
After breakfast we game drive out of the Reserve and return to Nanyuki for a lunch stop. For those wishing to climb Mt.Kenya, this will be your departure point. After lunch we return to Nairobi via Nyeri and Thika, arriving in the late afternoon.
