WILDLIFE SAFARIS

4 Days/3 Nights Samburu & Nakuru (Camping)

Day 1 Nairobi - Samburu Game Reserve
Depart Nairobi travelling north through the fertile areas of the Central Highlands, past vast pineapple plantations, coffee farms and rural towns. We make a stop in the equator town of Nanyuki for lunch. If the weather is clear, good views of Mt Kenya are possible. We continue through Isiolo to the Samburu Game Reserve for our overnight camp.

Day 2 Samburu Game Reserve
The day is spent game driving in Samburu in search of some of the more unusual species found in northern Kenya - Grevy's zebra, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe and Somali Ostrich. Other animals commonly seen are elephants, buffalo, cheetah, leopard, lion, and spotted hyena.
An optional highlight of an evening in Samburu is a visit to Samburu Lodge to view the crocodiles, lured to the bar area by carcass meat. Overnight camp.

Day 3 Samburu - Lake Nakuru
After breakfast we leave the camp and proceed to Nakuru via Nyahururu, one of the highest towns in Kenya. Here we take a short break to view Thomson's Falls, named after an early European explorer. Time to look at local handicrafts or have your photo taken with a Kikuyu witchdoctor! Dropping in altitude down the Rift Valley escarpment, the drive to Nakuru is extremely scenic and well worth a photo... or two! We arrive in Nakuru late in the afternoon and overnight at a local hotel.

Day 4 Lake Nakuru - Nairobi
After breakfast we enter the Park and spend the morning game viewing.
For many years Lake Nakuru has been famous for the thousands of flamingo that inhabit the shores of the lake. In recent times, the water level of the lake has fluctuated greatly and this has affected the numbers present at any one time. More importantly, the Park has been established as a rhino sanctuary and these are frequently seen on gamedrives - along with buffalo, lion, giraffe, waterbuck, and the elusive leopard.
After lunch we depart for Nairobi, arriving late afternoon.
