An adventure safari through the remote and unpredictable regions of northern Kenya to the "Cradle of Mankind" and legendary Lake Turkana. Fascinating tribes, amazing geography, unusual wildlife ...a true adventure!

** Departs Fridays

Day 1 Nairobi - Samburu
Depart Nairobi travelling north through the fertile areas of the Central Highlands, past vast pineapple plantations, coffee farms and rural towns. we make a stop in the equator town of Nanyuki for lunch. If the weather is clear, good views of Mt Kenya are possible. We continue through Isiolo to the Samburu Game Reserve for our overnight camp.

Day 2 Samburu Game Reserve
The day is spent game driving in Samburu in search of some of the more unusual species found in northern Kenya - Grevy's zebra, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe and Somali Ostrich. Other animals commonly seen are elephants, buffalo, cheetah, leopard, lion, and spotted hyena.
An optional highlight of an evening in Samburu is a visit to Samburu Lodge to view the crocodiles, lured to the bar area by carcass meat.

Day 3 Samburu - Marsabit
After breakfast we gamedrive out of the Reserve and head north again to Marsabit, an extinct volcano heavily forested on its upper slopes. After lunch, the rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight camp or budget hotel.

Day 4 Marsabit - Kalacha
Driving further northwards through desert and lava flows we reach Kalacha, a small Gabra settlement on the edge of the Chalbi Desert. Overnight camp.

Day 5 Kalacha - Lake Turkana
We depart early crossing the Chalbi Desert. The desert cannot be crossed if wet but there are alternative routes to the north and south. We reach Loiyangalani, situated on the south-eastern shore, and proceed to the camp for lunch. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.

Day 6 Lake Turkana
The day is spent at leisure, either relaxing by the lake, exploring the local area, or taking an optional excursion to an El Molo village. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 7 Lake Turkana - Maralal
Heading south from Loiyangalani we proceed via South Horr and Baragoi to Maralal, a Northern Frontier town located in the hills above the Loroghi Plateau. If time permits, a camel ride can be taken in the surrounding area. Overnight camp.
