5 Days  Backpacker Special  (ex Nairobi)

Day 1  Nairobi – Kampala
Early morning departure from Nairobi by express bus service to Kampala. The route takes you via Nakuru and Eldoret to the border post at Malaba where you complete immigration formalities. The journey from here via the lakeside town of Jinja is quite scenic and you pass lush fields of tea, sugar plantations, rice paddies and banana farms. Kampala, Uganda's capital, is built on seven hills which provide a beautiful backdrop to the city. Once in Kampala, make your way to a Backpackers Hostel in Kampala for your overnight stay.

Day 2   Kampala – Mbarara -Mgahinga
Depart Kampala in the morning and travel west towards the Congo/Rwandan borders. The road skirts the shores of Lake Victoria and crosses the Equator on the way to Masaka. At Masaka the route heads inland to Mbarara where we stop for lunch. The road climbs through fertile rural countryside before reaching Kabale, Uganda’s highest town. Here the tarmac road ends and we continue on a winding dirt road until we reach the border town of Kisoro, then on to Mgahinga.
On arrival, check into simple bandas near the park entrance dinner and your overnight stay. (L,D)

Day 3  Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
The highlight of any trip to Africa - a trek to visit the rare Mountain Gorilla. Mgahinga National Park is a small reserve bordering the Congo and Rwanda in an area known as the Virungas. It was created to protect the environment of the gorilla families inhabiting the volcanic slopes. Uganda is host to over half the remaining gorilla families that inhabit the parks in the 3 neighbouring countries. Accompanied by KWA guides, you trek through the short scrub and bush until the family is found. This could take anywhere from 40 minutes to 4 hours, depending on where the family is located within the Park. Once found, the maximum time allowed to photograph and view the gorillas is one hour. To sit with these magnificent creatures is a tremendous experience and creates many memorable moments. On your return to the camp, the rest of the day is free. (B,L,D)
